Focusing it to the master’s, the masters degree gown and hood are unique and it’s distinguishing in its own way.

Originally, the using of the academic gown was founded by the concept of an everyday dress worn by both males and females. The casual robes worn by everyday people had evolved into something with a high value and implication and that up until the present time is still being taken as a significant thing. Back in the day, the people wear casual robes as their everyday clothing and one way or another, these robes would signify an individuals’ standing in the society. Of course, those people who are considered as elite would have the most elegant robes. They come from fine quality materials and they are embellished with intricate detailing.

Gradually through time the use of these robes became a means of identifying a person’s alliance to a particular group. Different clusters and guilds created their own personal robes highlighting its members. The academic organization created their own particular robes and slowly through the years, the materialization of the different types of academic robes came about together with the other academic items.

The masters degree gown and hood are one of the type of academic regalia that had emerged through the years. The masters gown is known for its oblong sleeves that are arched at the wrist area and have a square cut at the bottom portion of it. Like the bachelor’s academic gown, the master’s robe is designed with fasteners at the front region of which it can either be worn either closed or open. These robes may be seen having different colors but the most prominent shade used to it is black. Some of the basic parts of the gown include the pleat, yoke, sleeve hole, fold, sleeve and lastly, the bottom of the sleeve.

The master’s hood on the other hand has four basic parts; these are the shell, velvet lining, field color and the chevron. The shell or otherwise referred to as the black shell is the main fabric color. With its given name, it comes in a standard shade of black. The velvet lining on the other hand implies the given degree or field of study. Each degree corresponds to a certain shade of color and this is exhibited in the velvet portion of the hood. The field color represents the first school color as well as the chevron of which denotes the second school color.

The masters degree gown and hood is just one of the several types of graduation regalia. Although they may have the basic overall structure like any other academic wardrobe, they are distinct from the others in different ways but they still hold the same context of symbolizing academic achievement.
