Wacky Graduation Ceremonies

You really wouldn't think graduation ceremonies, in general, are wacky, off-the-wall affairs, but that's just because you haven't seen anything yet! As with every other supposedly dignified ceremony, absurdities can and do happen!

Below are four instances of some unconventional graduation happenings. Which one do you think is the weirdest?

1.       Cosplay graduation in Japan

Students Japan’s Kanazawa College of Art took their artistic abilities to the graduation ceremony, showcasing many different costumes and making the whole event look like something out of Comic Con or an otaku event. Some dressed up as famous video game characters like Mario and Luigi, while others dressed as something absurd, such as a violin (yes, you read that right). You could tell the graduates were having fun!

2.       Senior stripping at a graduation ceremony

Quintin L. Murphy, a North Carolina Senior, pulled off a prank during his high school graduation by stripping down to his leopard-patterned undergarments. As a result, his diploma was taken away from him. The superintendent then warned that future pranks as such would mean long-term consequences for those who’d follow Murphy’s lead. Talk about being stripped of your diploma!

3.       Pelting with flour and eggs in Padova, Italy

Padova, the site of the world’s second-oldest anatomical theater, has its unique spin on graduation ceremonies. Students don bizarre costumes and parade themselves outside the streets while spectators serenade the tune Dottore, Dottore—a somewhat offensive song—a few times. Later, the graduates are pelted with grocery items such as flour and eggs. And a lot of students complain about embarrassing graduation ceremonies!

4.       Farm animals during graduation

At North Hartford High School, a group of seniors decided to have a little fun by letting loose farm animals. The whole school became crowded with pigs, cows, and horses! If you think that’s bad, the perpetrators also glued pennies on the school doors, causing a total lock-down! They were never caught to this day.

Think you can add more to the list by sharing your own? Feel free! But remember—we’re not saying you should pull off pranks or stunts of your own!
